2015 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED



KAHULUI, Hawaii – The Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation announced the awarding of scholarships to 12 graduating high school seniors and one Maui Culinary Academy student.  
“We are pleased to announce the 2015 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation scholarship recipients,” said Melen Agcolicol, president of the Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation.  
“Each of the scholars excelled academically, received numerous awards, and are very active in the community.  They are a shining example of Maui’s future.  We congratulate them and look forward to their continued success.  Thanks to the success of our Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament under the chairmanship of Bill Ruidas and our many community partners, we increased the amount of scholarships awarded from last year.” 
  • Joanne Patricia Valvarez ENGRACIO, as the top ranked scholar, will receive the $2,000.00 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/Renato & Maria A.F. Etrata Foundation Scholarship.  Engracio will major in International Business at the University of San Francisco.  She attends Maui HS and is the daughter of Nicanor Engracio and Lourdes Engracio.
  • Chantelle BACLAY will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship.  Baclay will major in Biology at Pacific University.  She attends Lahainaluna HS and is the daughter of Ryan T. Baclay and Jacqueline L. Baclay.
  • Joy Dionicia BALINBIN will receive the $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/Richard Caldito Sr. Scholarship.  Balinbin will major in Sociology at Saint Mary’s College of California.  Balinbin attends Seabury Hall and is the daughter of Marcia Balinbin.
  • Princess Jhoy BONILLA will receive the $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/Maui Island Cozy Dental Scholarship.  Bonilla will major in Nursing at Chaminade University of Hawaii.  She attends Baldwin HS and is the daughter of Elepisio Bonilla and Marylou Bonilla.
  • Joyce CEBRICOS will receive the $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/Megan, Meredith & Mallory Bagoyo Scholarship in Business.  Cebricos will major in Finance/Criminology at The Ohio State University.  She attends Maui HS and is the daughter of Danilo Agsalog and Jenifer Ann Agsalog.
  • Sophia FREDY will receive the $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/Antonio Fartan Ayson Family Scholarship.  Fredy will major in Communications at Arizona State University.  Fredy attends Lahainaluna HS and is the daughter of Charles Fredy and ShaRon Fredy.
  • Jaclyn GORMAN will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship.  Gorman will major in Animation at Chapman University.  Gorman attends Kamehameha Schools Maui and is the daughter of Terry Gorman and Terilynne Gorman.
  • Marella IDICA will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship.  Idica will major in Art (Graphic Design) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.  Idica attends Baldwin HS and is the daughter of Ruben Idica and Bety Idica.
  • Jaclyn May QUEDDING will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship.  Quedding will major in Nursing at University of Hawaii Maui College.  Quedding attends Maui HS and is the daughter of Marlon Quedding and Marites Quedding.
  • Paris Nicole SENSANO will receive the $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/Pepito Ragasa Scholarship.   Sensano will major in Biology at St. John’s University.  Sensano attends Maui HS and is the daughter of Albert Sensano and Bobbie Sensano.
  • Liana Kahealani Phillips TANAKA will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship.  Tanaka will major in Biology & Chemistry/Pharmacy or Optometry at Pacific University.  Tanaka attends Maui HS and is the daughter of James Tanaka and Jennifer Phillips.
  • Dayna Mieko YAMASAKI will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship.  Yamasaki will major in Business Administration at the University of San Francisco.  Yamasaki attends Baldwin HS and is the daughter of Shane Yamasaki and Lani Yamasaki.
  • Mary Ann UBALDO will receive the $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/Maui Culinary Academy Scholarship.  Ubaldo has been enrolled in the Culinary Arts Academy since the Fall 2013 semester.  She graduated from Baldwin HS in 2013.
The Scholars will be officially presented at the June 17, 2015 Gintong Pamana Leadership & Scholarship Awards Banquet at Café O Lei at The Dunes Maui Lani.
